HIGH CHIEF PROSPER IWOMA EDO

High Chief Prosper Edo is a dynamic grassroot community leader and the fifth citizen of Igbide community in Isoko South local council area of Delta State by virtue of his ancestry. He is also a social reformer and a philanthropist with a large heart for selfless service to individuals irrespective of their ethnicity or background. He is the convener, Prosper Edo Empowerment Program (PEEP)-a non-governmental organization with a mandate of providing youths and the less privileged in society with the requisite skills needed to succeed in life. His resourcefulness and philanthropy have endeared him to many and he has not relented in using his God-given resources to impact society. These and many other virtues that he has displayed has no doubt brought about his nomination as a Niger Delta Peace Legend.

BACKGROUND, AND EDUCATION

High Chief Prosper Edo hails from Igbide community and had most of his formative years there. He attended Eru Primary School and later attended Government College Ughelli and Igbide Grammar School for his basic and post basic education. He then proceeded to the Delta State University, Abraka where he bagged a bachelor’s degree in Economics.

Today, High Chief Prosper Edo holds a master’s degree in Economics and his also a doctoral candidate in the same field of study from the Delta State University, Abraka.

CONTRIBUTION TO PEACE, AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

High Chief Prosper Edo is the Olotu Ekpa of Igbide clan and also the Omotuomo of Ughelli kingdom. While the former title reflects his ancestry and lineage, the latter was conferred on him as a result of his humanitarian initiatives and contributions towards peace and human capital development across the three senatorial districts in Delta State. Through his social empowerment initiative, he has been able to impact the lives of youths drawn from different ethnicities in Delta State.

During his first empowerment program that was organized and done in Ughelli city, High Chief Prosper Edo was able to empower women and girls in various skill acquisitions ranging from fashion design to confectionery production. Starter packs and start-up funds were provided for all the participants who underwent the intensive 18-months training.

High Chief Prosper Edo’s second empowerment program focused on youths from Igbide community. Over 66 youths underwent various vocational training for 18-months as well and were also provided with start-up funds and starter packs to commence their trades.

Besides his humanitarian gestures, High Chief Prosper Edo is also involved in community affairs. He has been involved in several conflict resolution in Igbide and has played pivotal roles in ensuring that peace reigns supreme in the enclave. He serves as a mentor to the youths and offers counsel on sundry matters to help them find their purpose in life.

High Chief Prosper Edo hopes to continue in this trajectory of providing of means of livelihood to youths across communities and cities in Delta State and across the Niger Delta. For him, this recognition as a Niger Delta Peace Legend will serve as a elixir to spur him to reduce the poverty gap in the society.
