BRIEF HISTORY
The Effurun-otor kingdom, also known as Uvwie-Rorho/Ephron-otor, literality interpreted, means Effurun of upland, Effurun-otor is the cradle and ancestral home of Effurun-Warri people and other vassal towns and those in Diasporas, they are our blood relations.
It is a blessed autonomous kingdom and single community that does not owe allegiance, loyalty or subordinated to other existing kingdom within the Ughelli south delineation.
In accordance with ancient narrative history Effurun-otor migrated form a village (Egbaran) an Ijaws town in the late 16th century. According to stories told, a woman from Erohwa in Isoko division married the ancestral father of Ephron called Tarakiri in Ijaw-land, they had children and one of the children was called Ofene. The settlement grew and became known as Tarakiri clan in Ijaw-land. The name Ofene Alias Uvwie was popularly called by his Ijaw kinsmen as EFORON and by his Isoko kinsmen as Evro. This name later on became Ephron by Urhobo tongue, however with the passage of time the name fell again to an English version which is known as Effurun-otor. The migration took them to Otuomo-Ijaw close to Bomadi and Eghwu. They also moved to Erowha and Patani where they settled briefly before they finally migrated under the leadership of Ogun the son of Ekwe. The expedition took them through many villages to Uto-Orogun and present day Okpare and Ovwor towns that were not inhabited by people then. They also settled briefly at Ighwre-Ogegede Ovwor where you have the old oil mill.
During the migration some unwilling persons and families were left behind at Patani, Erohwa and other places where they flag-stopped to rest. Their settlement and shrine could be identified by an old kola-nut tree at Patani. The present day Utorogun, become a compound word corrupted or wrongly coined from our fore-father named Ogun. Uto in Urhobo language means a tributary. That was how the name Utorogun emanated as a result of Ephron settlement there.
After the death of Ogun at Uto-rogun the eldest son Eruohwo later led them across the river to the present day Effurun-otor. The Effurun-otor town is the ancestral home and cradle of the Effurun (Uvwie) people near Warri.the quarters at Effurun-Warri, Erovie quarters (PTI road) Ogbe quarters (air port junction area) Iudurhie (off PTI road) Alaka quarters (market area) are replica of the quarters that exist in Effurun-otor kingdom till date.
